Hot Chocolate Run

Molly and I did the Hot Chocolate Run.  It's a huge run , but is a lot of fun.  I did it will Anne last year, but she didn't make it this year.  There were 9 thousand people registered.  This is our before picture standing in front of the start
We were in the 4th wave of runners, so we were standing around for a while. I loved the marshmallows
The weather was perfect and the run was very easy.  It's so much easier when you set out know you are going to walk and run.  I must admit there was no way I wanted to eat chocolate after just running, so I brought my winners bowl home with me.  We finished in 37:21
We parked near Scottrade Center, so I got this cake on the way back to the car

MidCounty YMCA Reindeer Dash-Our December run

We ran the Reindeer Dash 5 k this morning.  It was a benefit for the MidCounty YMCA.  It wasn't timed, but I ran in 33:05, which was really good seeing as it was very hilly.  Sam and I both won our age categories, we left before they announced the awards, but luckily someone we knew was there that told us we won!!!!

November Run Webster/Kirkwood Turkey Trot 2014

Very cold morning, Sam said real feel was 16. We weren't too keen on doing this run since it snowed all day yesterday, but as usual we were glad we made the effort.
The race is getting very popular and it's hard to get around everyone because the course is so narrow.  That was fine for me as it was an easy pace, but annoying when you get jostled and almost run over by a stroller....

October run #2

Ivory Crockett is a great run and supports the school district's foundation.  It is pretty hilly though and slowed me down considerably.  Plus, I had to stop and walk for a while as I felt pretty nauseous-do NOT eat pizza the night before or drink too much coffee right before running.......

October Run #1

Great run this morning.  I'm still slow, but steadily improving.  Most importantly, I ran the whole way and felt good!!!  Another run next weekend to round out October.

September Run-Forest Park

Very nice morning for our September run. I did it in 23 seconds less than Monday's run, so I was a little faster. Still much slower than I ussed to be!!!
Sam says we look better at the end of the race than the beginning!!!!

August Run 2014 Billiken 5K at SLU

OK, it's September 1st, so technically this is not my August run, but we were gone for quite a bit of the month and it's so hot that there aren't that many runs around in August.  I was pretty slow, but my heel has been really bothering me and I haven't run since the July 4 run.  I felt OK, so that's a plus.  September run is next week!!!!

July Run Freedom 4 mile

Fair St Louis has relocated to Forest Park this year because of the construction down by the arch. The Freedom 4 mile run was this morning in the park. It was fantastic weather, the course was nice and flat, it was one of the best runs ever
My time wasn't as good as last year, but I haven't been running anything like as much and my heel is STILL bothering me....
Great start to a Saturday morning though and my July run is done....

Imagine no malaria June run #3

Sam and I did a run in Webster on Saturday. It wasn't timed, so I timed it on my phone.  We ran it in 32:50, probably my "comfortable" time.  I did walk some of it.  It was pretty warm and humid and I much prefer to run in the cold weather.
We chased this mosquito, who was big enough he could hold the flag during the National Anthem!!!!
We look pretty happy that it's over.  We have done 3 runs in June, still planning on doing one every month this year

All American Run-June run #2

Sam and I did the All American 5K yesterday. I have done it every year it's been going, this was Sam's first time doing this run.  It's heralded as the fastest run in St Louis because a lot of it is downhill.  Unfortunately, it is NOT my fastest run.  I really wanted to be under 30 minutes, but I just could not do it.  My final time was 30:49, at least it was 9 seconds faster than last year!!!  I was 11th out of 50 in my age category, so not too bad
My "after picture" has me smiling, but I was not very happy!!!!
Still, I am on target to do a run every month this year.....

First Run in June

Sam and I did the Yoga 6 6K run in Forest park last night (Yoga 6, 6K, 6pm, on 6/6!!!).  It was a really nice run, there weren't too many people (only 87 in total).  Most of the runners were young and fit, so I came 60th out of the 87 but my time was 37:19.  The last time I did a 6K (Stan Musial Bridge), I did it in 38:48, so I was much faster
Our before and after pictures look pretty much the same....

Girls on the Run 2014

Girls on the Run was last Saturday, my second run in May 2014.  We all met as a team and started together.
This run is the only one I know where the majority of the participants wear the race shirt, it always looks so cool when you see a sea of color.
Maggie did not do very well this year, she just would not run at all not matter what I did to encourage her.  I tried everything, but nothing worked.  She walked, she cried, she whined.  I eventually left her when we saw the finish line and took this picture of her crossing about a minute after me
After making out she was dying and a bunch of melodrama, she immediately turned around and was fine.  She wasn't even breathing that hard.  She is so frustrating sometimes!!!  Still, we made it and I will keep on trying to get her to exercise whenever I can

May 2014 Run for Sight

Molly works in the ophthalmology department at SLU and asked me if I wanted to do the Run for Sight 5K.  Maggie and I are doing GOTR next Saturday, but this was for a good cause, so I did it with Anne and Molly this past Sunday.  It was a great day for a run....
We asked someone to take an after picture by one of the St. Louis 250 cakes, nice finger shot in the corner!!!!
Pretty hopeless time, but we did it!!!

My March race is done.....

I ran the 5 mile St Patrick's Day Parade race in 52:10 today.  I had to walk some of it, but still did much better than I thought I would.  I was aiming to do under an hour and I easily made it.  Most surprising was that I did it at my usual 5K pace.  I had to walk some of it, but I felt great the whole time, so I am very happy.  Before and after pictures show how happy we were.  Perfect weather for a race.

Stan Musial Bridge 6K run

We came so close to not doing this run. It had snowed YET again on Friday night and it was really cold. However, I have not given up on a run yet and I am so glad that we did this. It would have been different if we were running the usual course downtown, but this opportunity was never going to come again.  We got there right as the run started and the weather wasn't as bad as some of the other runs we have done this year, so it was very successful.
We look just as happy at the end as we did at the beginning!!!!
I felt great doing this run, completely different to the Commitment Run on Jan 1 this year.  My time needs to be faster, but not bad for a cold day and slushy underfoot.  Funny, I was faster on the way back than the way out.  Sam said it was because it was downhill, but usually I am much more tired by the time I'm almost done!!!

Commitment Run 2014

First run of 2014. This was the hardest run I have done since the first one that I ever did. No idea why, maybe because I am fighting a cold.  I ran in 31:47 and it was so difficult.  This was my 5th run of this Winter and by far the best weather of the season.
I felt terrible after I was done, like the first race I ever ran.  My calves completely seized up after I had sat down for a few minutes.  After a couple of days, I figured it had to be my cold because I felt winded after just walking up the stairs!!!!  Still, I didn't look too bad in the "after" picture!!!!
